Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos DL Elvis Dumervil was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm in Miami Saturday, July 14. The case is a third-degree felony. Dumervil was freed on $7,500 bail. 'No charges have been filed,' Dumervil's agent said Sunday, July 15. 'No assault took place and it's likely once the full investigation is complete no charges will be filed against Elvis.'

The Seattle Seahawks released WR Mike X. Williams Friday, July 13, and as always in the NFL, it was mostly a business decision. Williams' contract included base salaries of $3 million and $3.4 million in 2012 and 2013, plus $150,000 annual weight clauses. In addition, Williams was also due a $15,625 roster bonus for every game he was active for a total of $187,500, plus a $150,000 workout bonus.

The five-year, $100 million contract signed by New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees might play a part in the not-too-distant future for the Detroit Lions and QB Matthew Stafford. Stafford is nine years younger and not nearly as accomplished as Brees, but the two are represented by the same agent in Tom Condon. Stafford has two years left on his rookie contract, but after converting the bulk of his base pay to signing bonuses the past two years, Stafford does have a cumbersome salary-cap number of $20 million in 2013, and $19 million in 2014. That means the Lions might try signing him to a long-term extension next spring.
